Norman Has Successful Back Surgery

After exhausting all non-surgical options to relieve back pain that has bothered Greg Norman for years, the two-time British Open champion decided that an operation was the best course of action. "I had a simple choice," Norman said. "Either retire from the game of golf or seek any and all available means to help relieve the pain that has kept me from performing at a level that suits my standards." Norman underwent a micro-surgical partial discectomy and decompression of the L4-L5 nerve roots to his thigh and foot at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Joseph Maroon, M.D., Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery, performed the operation, which took 90 minutes.

Three Friends: One Goal Distributes More Than $2 Million

Three Friends: One Goal, a tsunami relief charity golf outing hosted by President George H. W. Bush, President Bill Clinton and Greg Norman, raised more than $2 million for AmeriCares and UNICEF. More than $1.8 million was collected March 9 at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla., and an additional $200,000 has flowed into the offices of Great White Shark Enterprises since the event. "It is a tremendous feeling to see the way people stepped up for this cause," Norman said. "I was honored to host this event alongside two distinguished former presidents, and to know that we raised such a substantial amount of money for their respective charities is something everyone who participated should be extremely proud of."

Golf Digest Names Red Sky Among Best-In-State

The latest issue of Golf Digest confirms what many members and resort guests have already discovered: Red Sky Golf Club is among the best courses in Colorado. The May 2005 issue lists the best courses in each of the 50 states. Red Sky earned the honors of second highest rated club in Colorado with public access and the only club in Colorado with two courses on the list. The Norman Course was rated No. 9. "It is an honor to earn such distinguishing status from Golf Digest," said Jim Thompson, President of Red Sky Golf Club. "Given the two beautiful layouts, I can attribute this success to all of the hard work of our facilities staff and the loyalty of our members and guests."
